A sunday kind of love

What is the blog to literature? Is it like the text to communication? Perhaps it’s more like modern fashion to art… I don’t mean this in a derogatory way but in a pondering way... a) a blog entry reaches a lot of people, b) lots of us end up wearing the same thing and c) it only lasts for a brief season. A blog has unabashed permission to be opinionated and let’s face it – it’s lovely to change your opinions like fashion when you find that you’ve outgrown an old, tatty one that seems slightly dated in the light of what you see now, that you didn’t see before. I have a love/hate relationship with both blogs and fashion. Some outfits are utterly silly eg: the recent Gucci ads with girls wearing puffy, pink fur coats that made them look like the sugarpuffs monster of the 1980’s – did anyone see those? Very funny. Then again some outfits can totally lift your spirits when you put them on. The best piece of fashion advice I ever received was from my Mum. When I was a teenager I wanted to pluck my Brooke Sheilds like eyebrows off completely, Dangerous Liasons style, and paint on thin lines instead. In the realm of bad ideas, that one was a princess. Luckily my Mum found me, tweezers in hand and gave me this jewel : “Never, ever follow fashion. Follow your face.” In other words, work with what you’ve got, don’t try to superimpose a passing trend onto yourself unless it suits you. Well, here’s the point of all this : writing suits me down to my bone marrow and through my soul, so… I’m commiting to a weekly Sunday blog entry for the whole of 2010. That’s write. I’m trying this out for size so you can see how I look, and see how I see. See you Sunday, Love.
